Group and Team Coaching Design Tips - Day 5: 12 Days of Celebrations

We're almost mid-way through the 12 Days of Celebrations for group and team coaches. Be sure to

check out:

Day 4 - Working With Visual Cards - Read it here and be sure to check out the video!

Day 3 - Coaching Business Builder Checklist - Check it out and be sure to download the checklist which comes from the Coaching Biz Growth Lab that will be kicking off again in January. Save $500 on your spot in this annual business coaching group!

Day 2 - 20 Group and Team Coaching Client Questions. You'll find them here.

Day 1 - 6 Core Group and Team Coaching Resources - check them out here

Today we tackle the important question around DESIGN. What can you do to structure the process of a great group or team coaching conversation? Co-creating the focus of the conversation is what keeps coaching, coaching. At the same time, it can be valuable to think through what the conversation is going to look like, keeping in mind the "book ends" of coaching openers and closers.

I also wanted to remind you of the Group Coaching Design Matrix we explore throughout the Group Coaching Essentials program. If you have a copy of my books - Effective Group Coaching OR From One to Many  - you will find a copy of this in the Design Chapters.

Taking time to map out the core elements of the coaching arc is important.  At the same time  you may want to overlay some of the tips around solid neuroscience I cover in Effective Virtual Conversations (see chapter 6) as well as the PEBBLLES ETC Framework I first shared in that book:

PEBBLES ETC stands for:

Whether your conversations are virtual, or in person, you can incorporate these all into your process.

And don't forget my favorite design tip - LESS IS MORE! When you think about the importance of the start and close of a coaching conversation there's usually only room for one coaching activity/discussion/conversation.

Enjoy today's tip and think about what your design process might look like?

Want more support in this area? This is what we focus on all year at the LEarning Lab and Design Studio, a bi-weekly coaching group which meets every second Friday from 8 - 845 am ET throughout the year. We kick off again in early January (with a bonus call on December 31st to set your intentions!). Hope you will join us - learn more here and register. Join us and save $500 US with the end of November savings carried over to December 21st!

With best wishes,

Jennifer

Setting New Year Intentions at the Learning Lab and Design Studio

Today was New Year Intention Setting day at the Learning Lab and Design Studio, an annual group I
2018 Intentions at the Learning Lab and Design Studio
host for coaches. We’re stepping into year three at the Learning Lab and Design Studio this month. The LLDS is a group I host for coaches, trainers and other professionals who are looking to expand their work and business in the areas of group and team work.
Every month we meet for two calls – one a hands-on Facilitation Lab where I bring real-time tools and approaches and we apply it to our monthly theme. The second call is a content/learning call where I share resources you can apply right away in your work (upcoming 2018 themes are exploring are video-based learning, building trust, program hacks, core skills and building your toolkit).

As I went to wrap up our call today, I pulled some cards for my own intentions at the LLDS this year and wasn’t it interesting what showed up.

From the Points of You Deck I pulled the card – LOVE – lucky #88. The LLDS is one program I LOVE facilitating. It’s also probably one of the lesser known programs of mine. It’s been a way that I hve been able to develop an extended relationship with coaches who don’t just want to quick dive into group and team coaching, or growing their business, but want a longer term focus. You can join us at any time (and of course there’s a 50% New Year Special on it right now)

From Wayne Dyer’s card deck, The Power of Intention, I pulled the “Practice the Power of Intention Card” which I take as a reminder to me to get more into the practice of intention setting, or thinking of what outcome I am looking for in my work, before taking action.

Finally, the last tool I shared this morning were Rory’s Story Cubes….As you’ll see from the photo above the following story showed up for me around the LLDS 2018:

The apple – As the first cube selected, I take the apple as a representation of Knowledge – very appropriate for us at the Learning Lab and Design Studio where the lens is about all things learning, and creating engaging learning and growth experiences for the groups and teams we work with as coaches, trainers and facilitators.

Magnifying glass – Every month a different theme gets put under the magnifying glass. As a facilitator myself, it encourages me to continue my pursuit of learning, keeping abreast of new trends in our field, and exploring topics I can bring in my own work to my clients.

The Flower – As an avid gardener in the warmer months I was pleasantly surprised to see this come up. It got me to researching to see if different flower symbols have different meanings – and in fact they do – here’s a cool list - https://www.almanac.com/content/flower-meanings-language-flowers . For this story, I’m taking the flower as a representation of the importance of building up your garden bed, and taking time to appreciate the beauty they exist. I think that for many of us doing a lot of work with groups and teams we are moving so fast (like our clients are) that it’s quite rare to have a quick pause to take stock of what we have, and what we can do. The LLDS creates one of these important pauses.

Footprints – The LLDS is also about taking action, and leaving your mark. Once a quarter I host a 4 hour virtual retreat afternoon, geared to get you into action around your own work. This year I’ll also be hosting quarterly program hacks so you can do some real-time design work in a compressed timeframe.

Lightening Bolt – One of the two calls each month is a facilitation lab. In establishing this program in January 2016, I felt that it was really important to create a place where we as facilitators could try out different tools, and experience them as learners ourselves, before taking them into work with our clients.

Book - There is an abundance of topics we cover throughout the year, and I’ve loved how there are now more than 24 sets of templates, articles, and almost 50 recordings for LLDS members to explore when they have time.

Conversation – One of my favorite symbols (the conversation bubble which is also on the title of my newest book, Effective Virtual Conversations) was next in the storyline. The other element I love at the LLDS is the conversations that ensue. It is a small group conversation experience, and unlike larger group webinars where  everything might be chat only, we engage every week in rich conversation.

Fountain – The fountain to me represents the fact that there will always be a myriad of topics left to explore. Our work and professional field is not static. It’s ever changing and evolving. The LLDS provides a regular reminder to keep learning.

Tree – For the last three or four years now I have been returning back to my roots as an environmental scientist in different ways, particularly as I speak and write about ecosystems. My work has always been very multi-disciplinary and the tree symbolizes how at the LLDS many of our conversations span the different disciplines of coaching, training, learning, education, e-learning, facilitation, social change….

As a writer and author I love seeing how these cubes spark a new storyline for the teams and groups I work with!

I hope that today’s blog post has given you more insights about what we explore and the conversations we have at the Learning Lab and Design Studio. We’ll be meeting throughout 2018 on Fridays from 845 – 930 am Eastern (slightly later than our last two years of programming, but early enough so you can catch us as you head into work on Fridays). Calls are held twice a month with the next one on Friday January 19th.

My 50% off New Year’s special is on for a few more days (until our next call). Save $625 US on the annual rate of $1250 US. Use code 2018NewYear at checkout. More info and registration at http://www.learninglabanddesignstudio.com.
I'd love to have you join us this year! Email me to set up a time to discuss how this program could support you.
With best wishes,
Jennifer

Day 12 of 12 Days of Holiday Goodies - The Business Case for Group and Team Coaching

We've made it to the end of the 12 days of holidays and I hope that you have enjoyed the 12 different
resources I have made available to you. I'll do a recap next week on the different offers but you can find them all here. Over the last 12 days I've included links to articles, videos and audios to support you with your group and team programming. If you enjoyed them, I hope that it will spark you to join me during 2017 for one of our ongoing programs (January programs listed below)

Today's final goodie rounds out the others. This week we've looked at vision, marketing tips, exercises you might want to bring in, and other.

Today's resource link is to the Spring 2016 call I did on building a business case for group and team coaching. It runs for 33 minutes, and you can access it over at the Learning Lab and Design Studio portal here. For those who are considering how to describe your work, or what the benefits are, I hope that you will find it useful.

This call is reflective of the many topics we explore at the Learning Lab and Design Studio - a year long group that will run throughout 2017. If you are eager to put attention and focus around moving your coaching business forward in 2017, and want a collaborative group environment for learning, join me twice a month on Fridays from 8-8:45 am Eastern/Toronto for the live calls at the Learning LAb and Design Studio. There's now dozens of special articles, videos and audios from this year's LLDS which you'll be able to access during your time at the Lab. As I mentioned a few days ago on Day 7 some of our initial 2017 theme and focus areas for the two monthly group calls at the lab will be around setting your 2017 goals, team building, creating on-demand programming, virtual learning foundations, coaching skills and creating awareness. Learn more here or Download a program brochure here.

Thanks again for joining me this year for the 12 days of Holidays. Hope that you are your loved ones have a great holiday season,
Jennifer

Day 7 of 12 of the Holiday Goodies - The Learning Lab and Design Studio

This past year I started hosting a group which meets on Friday mornings at 8 am ET, focusing on group and team programming, and by extension, coaching business building. It's call the Learning Lab and Design Studio and we'll be continuing in 2017 in a new format of two Friday morning calls a month starting on January 13th at 8 am ET. It's a mix of both learning and design for coaches. A place to gain valuable tools and resources, but also a place which encourages you to roll up your sleeves and get your hands "dirty" or into action  - whether it's designing a new program, or moving the marketing forward with your business.

This year we've focused on a range of pertinent topics from working around goals, and vision, metaphors to undertaking design and vision sprints and hacks.

Topics planned for 2017 include:
Creating your 2017 roadmap
Building Your Toolkit
Marketing
Accountability
Designing your own on-demand programming

Group members have full access to the resources that are only available in the lab, which includes a new monthly article and a new template to use in your work.

As today's goodie, I wanted to make available a couple of these resources to you,

Here are the links to the two goodies I wanted to make avaialbe:
A social media worksheet you may want to use in planning your social media focus for 2017. Click here to view.
A link into the most recent call I did on the top 10 tools of 2016 and questions I received about group and team coaching. Click here to view this 45 minute lecture call.

I hope that you will join me starting January 13th at 8am ET for the two calls a month. Cost for the 2017 programming will be $149/month or $1250 US for the year. Click here to learn more and reserve your spot. Registration links at the end of the page - you can also add on a block of individual coaching to your package at a reduced rate.
